Online scammers often use phishing techniques to try to obtain your personal information.  If you receive a suspicious-looking email from “Ashley Madison”:

1. Never click on any links. Instead, hover over the link to identify where it’s taking you.
2. Inspect the email for signs of authenticity – Emails that don’t end in the @ashleymadison.com domain or @[WORD].ashleymadison.com subdomain are from scammers pretending to be us
3. Report the email by forwarding it to us at support@ashleymadison.com

Email addresses and phone numbers are types of personal information, and can be used against you in the wrong hands. Like someone pretending to be Ashley Madison and trying to lure you with phishing emails. Never share any personal information until you’re confident you know who you’re talking with. Maybe this person is genuine, but think about it: in this day and age, who wants to connect via email?

Remember, after your first message, subsequent regular messages to the same Member are free. So stay on Ashley Madison.

Fake verification scams are on the rise, so it’s always smart to check that emails are from legitimate sources. Scammers can go to great lengths  to create fake eco-systems of websites, emails, and content that looks legitimate.

Chances are, this person is playing on your sympathies and could even be trying to run a romance scam on you. Never send money to other Ashley Madison Members, regardless of the situation.
