Looking for information on the connection (if there is one) between anal sex and the success of a marriage is pretty difficult. The desire to look for this information arose after wondering if sexual variety is a major reason why marriages succeed and if it is … could that also be a reason why so many fail?
In 2006, New York Magazine published an article titled, “The Bottom Line: Anal-sex still makes people blush. But it’s also increasingly popular in the hetero world.” In this article, they cite some statistics on the taboo act:
A survey conducted in 2005 by the Centers for Disease Control revealed that 38.2% of men between 20 and 39 and 32.6% of women ages 18 to 44 engage in heterosexual anal sex.
This survey further confirms the notion that anal sex is something couples turn to for sexual variety by showing that the lowest percentages were among those who’ve never been married and those that are not living with a significant other and the highest were among those who were cohabiting or married.
This information goes hand-in-hand with other statistical data that demonstrates one of the major reasons why people have affairs is because they want to feel alive again – sexually. A Loveology University survey conducted between May 2008 and April 2009 revealed that excitement was the one of the top benefits to cheating according to both males (54%) and females (43%).
*70% of males cited “better/different/more sex” has the number one benefit.
If that wasn’t enough information to get you to contemplate engaging in the act (that is, if you aren’t already) Janusz Wisniewski, author of the famous erotic novel “Loneliness in the Web,” claims that an average romp with a lover is 3 times longer than one with a husband/wife.
Therefore, if sexual variety, longevity and excitement are all benefits to having an affair … maybe anal sex is a way to improve/save your marriage?
